Eagle Harbor Day Dock on Doctor's Lake

Eagle Harbor is a Master Planned Community with Five Day Docks throughout. The Dock on Doctor's Lake is beside the Waterfront Park to the east and a Preserve to the west which houses a Bald Eagle's nest. Boaters are welcome to dock their boats for the day while they visit Eagle Harbor residents. Residents shrimp and crab here and bring their favorite beverage to enjoy spectacular sunsets.

Pace Island - Gated Community (Fleming Island Florida)

Pace Island Entrance

Pace Island is a guard-gated naturally beautiful community on Fleming Island Florida. It is one of eight communities in Florida to win the coveted "Florida Quality Development" award. It was the first to win this award, and the only community in Northeast Florida to ever win this award.

The land which Pace Island sits on was purchased by John and Gussie Pace in 1949, when it was known as Geiger Point. For years it was their family home place and they dug lakes, canals, built roads and bridges, and cultivated many plants and trees. Developers gave them a price they couldn't refuse in 1984, and the development of Pace Island as a community was begun. You can read about the history of Pace Island here. For Orange Park residents, Pace Island was considered 'way out,' even though it was just over the Doctor's Lake Bridge. Now it's considered 'close in' on Fleming Island with the newer communities down the road.

The Moccasin Slough Wildlife Refuge was part of the original purchase of John Pace. Today, the Slough adjoins Pace Island affording a continuous natural setting for residents and guests. There are still many forms of wildlife to be observed and enjoyed.

There are 685 homes in Pace Island, developed as twenty-one units in four distinct neighborhoods. The first neighborhood, Pace Cove, is near the entrance on the right, and has smaller homes with an average 70'x120' lot. To the left is the Pace Highlands, where lots average 85'-100'x120'. Further down on the left is the Pace Vinings, with similar lot sizes as the Highlands.

Driving down a winding road through the conservation areas, you will come to the Pace Gardens. Turn right or left on Salt Myrtle, and you will wind around a large circle with homes on a lagoon and homes on navigable Doctor's Lake. Lot sizes start at 100' and range from 150' to over 225' deep. Turn right on Pace Island Trace, and you will see the Park with sports fields, swimming pool, pavilion, and nature walk to the community dock.

Home prices range from the high $100,000s to over $1,500,000. Home sizes range from around 1700 sq. ft. to around 6,000 sq. ft.

2 Swimming Pool Areas - Front Pool is an Olympic-sized competition pool and has a Clubhouse, kiddie pool, tennis courts and playground.

The Black Creek Trail Bicycle Path runs along the outside of the community and bikers can hop on and ride town to the Trail. There are also lighted basketball courts.

Pace Island has lots to do for children and adults: The Pirhanas Swim Team, Tennis Team, Bunco, Bridge, Aerobics, Holiday parties and  other activities.

Pace Island borders the Moccasin Slough wildlife refuge and there are trails running through it that may be accessed within the community.

Residents enjoy a very active social life and the Hibiscus newsletter keeps Pace Islanders informed of local events and news. Copies are available in the newsstand container just outside the guard gate on your way out of the community.

Orange Park Florida - One of Florida's Best Places to Live

St. Johns River borders Orange Park Florida

Orange Park Florida is located in Clay County, 20 miles south of Downtown Jacksonville and about a mile south of the Jacksonville Naval Air Station. It is bordered on the east by the St. Johns River.

Orange Park includes the Town of Orange Park and parts of unincorporated Clay County and covers zip codes 32073 and 32065. The Town is 5.6 square miles, which includes 1.6 square miles of water. Fleming Island (32003),over the Doctor's Lake bridge, was considered part of Orange Park until 2008.

Orange Park was one of four Florida towns named in Sperling's top 100 Best Places to Raise Your Family. Orange Park was also noted for: Best for Just Plain Fun, Best for Water Sports, Best for Beach Lovers, and Best Warm-All-Winter Places.

Jax Beach is about 35 minutes away, St. Augustine is 40 minutes, and Orlando is 2 hours away. Gainesville is a little over an hour away. Go Gators!

With over 226 sunny days, Orange Park FL is a perfect location for outdoors lovers, with 82 days of 90+ degrees weather and only about 12 days at/near freezing. When we have a freeze, it is only for a few hours and when the weather is chilly, in a few days it will be warm again. It can be 80 degrees any day in Orange Park, so we never put away our summer clothes.

As of 2006, 33% of all households were families with children. The median household income according to the 2000 census was $56,350, Clay County median household income was $66,288. In the Town of Orange Park, the population was 9,081, households with families were 68.9%, and average age was 43 years.

Orange Park was founded in 1877 by the Florida Winter Home and Improvement Company. In 1930, Yale University and Robert Yerkes opened the Yerkes Regional Primate Research Center on Kingsley Avenue. The Research Center was relocated to Emory University in 1965. Locals called it "The Monkey Farm" and most people really knew nothing about the type of research being done.

There is no defined 'downtown area' but there are shopping and business along Kingsley Avenue which runs from Blanding Blvd. to US Highway 17. The Orange Park Mall is a Regional Mall located on Blanding Blvd. at Wells Road. The movie theatre is one of the top grossing theatres in America. Wells Road is 'Restaurant Row' for Orange Park.

Shopping and businesses also run along Highway 17, but it is far more consumer and tree friendly thanks to the "Tree Ladies" of the 1960s who kept the tree-lined streets of the Town of Orange Park and drove the urban sprawl over to Blanding. They also successfully blocked large commercial signage for many years. There are still sign ordinances in effect, but they are somewhat relaxed.

River Road is a beautiful drive and you will find some historical homes along the way. The homes are across from the River, so you have a great view. Moosehaven Retirement Home is on the River - become a Moose and you can retire there!

Orange Park Schools are part of the respected Clay County School system. Orange Park Elementary is on a lottery system (siblings get first priority) and is a highly desired 'A' rated school. All other schools in Orange Park are ether 'A' or 'B' grades - except Orange Park High is a 'C' grade.

Eagle Harbor's Real Estate Market has picked up this quarter. Home sales in Eagle Harbor and elsewhere on Fleming Island have resulted in reduced inventory since July. Eagle Harbor is an active community with something for every lifestyle, whether it is golfing, swimming, tennis, boating, or just walking or bike riding. Shopping and restaurants are nearby and some of the top schools in Florida are on Fleming Island.

Eagle Harbor is located on Fleming Island in the Orange Park area of Jacksonville FL (zip 32003). There are over 20,000 residents on Fleming Island and about half of them live in Eagle Harbor. There are about 2800 homes in Eagle Harbor ranging from 1132 to 5700 sq. ft. Prices range from the mid $100,000s to over $1,500,000. There are condominiums, townhomes, and a variety of single family home styles and sizes.

Road Construction - Lake Asbury Area in Green Cove Springs FL

CR 209 in Black Creek bridge area

Construction is slow driving down CR 209 from CR 220 in the Lake Asbury area of Green Cove Springs. The widening of the road and bridge over Black Creek has finally begun.

CR 209 Traffic Stopped


Coming down CR 209 from Sandridge towards US 17, traffic is also slow due to construction there - they are digging a big hole for some reason at the intersection of CR 209 N (Russell Rd) and CR 209 at the railroad tracks heading east to US 17.

Add 5 to 10 minutes to travel times in these areas. The 209/209 traffic should clear up in a few days, but the traffic across the Black Creek Bridge on CR 209 is going to be impacted for quite some time to come.
