BLUE ANGELS AIR SHOW PHOTOS JACKSONVILLE FL

Blue Angels Jacksonville FL Every two years, the Jacksonvile Naval Air Station hosts the Blue Angels. The Blue Angels were founded here and there's always a big turnout even on a cloudy day. Low cloud cover forced the Angels to switch their normal routine.

Most of our family went by boat, anchoring out in the St. Johns River in front of the Base. Hundreds of families were there enjoying the day and watching the show.Blue Angels Jacksonville FL

Frank's sister and her husband had VIP tickets and met the only living original member of the 1946 Blue Angels. He and his wife were flown in from California to join us. They commented on how friendly everyone here was and how glad they were to be here.  Unfortunately, we didn't get to meet them.

Right at the end of the show, the clouds began to break, moving across the sky.Blue Angels Jacksonville FL

None of these photos were retouched and my camera did not have any filters on it. That said, we were so thrilled with some of the shots, especially the one that shows the sky breaking and the reflection in the water.

We are so fortunate to have this mighty river in our midst. It is three miles wide at this point - more like a bay than a river!

The Angels and the Thunderbirds are always out here each October for the Miramar Air Show, claimed to be the nation's largest, which I don't doubt based on the times I've been there. It's always a great show, and October is always Fleet Week--no explanation why the month is called Fleet Week. Probably some politican's sense of humor. LOL

Wow, both Blue Angels AND Thunderbirds? That must be amazing. I wonder if the original Blue Angel still living will be at that one also since he lives in CA. Thanks for stopping by, Jim.

Back in about 1969, the Blue Angels flew here in Kelowna BC breaking the sound barrier and all the windows downtown - very memorable!

Love your shots, especially the last one, and watching military teams fly!!

Broke all the windows? I'll bet that was memorable! I don't think they break the sound barrier anymore...at least not when they are here.

Thanks for enjoying the shots. I love to watch the military teams fly. Military people are special.

Sharon, I saw them many years ago, and it was just thrilling.  Thanks for sharing.

Yes Sharon it was about 1969. They flew over our main street; I was working downtown when the 'boom' occurred and then the sound of glass - fortunately no one was hurt. And it's given us plenty to talk about!!

Bob - we are so fortunate to have them here every other year. It is a huge patriotic surge to see them! Thanks for stopping by.

Deborah - it is amazing that no one was hurt. And it is still a great story almost 40 years later!
